I want to thank my parents for noticing my interest in dance and the visual arts in the midst of a highly academic culture that put little to no emphasis on creative expression. One of my fondest memories from growing up is of quickly passing hours spent on our window-enclosed back porch that was designated as my art studio. My beloved easel stood proud with paint palettes and charcoals all around while I immersed myself in what felt like magical visions eager to take form.
Then I went off to college and life no longer afforded what I perceived as the luxury of artistic expression. It took a few decades for me to find my way back to the Arts in the form of folk dance and hand drumming. Building on a dance foundation from childhood, I re-discovered rhythm as a language that could empower and heal.
It seems that the most meaningful transformations of my life have come through the arts. Arts have played a critical role in finding my voice, my power, and my truth. And, a driving commitment to the arts fueled a monumental move from the east coast to Silicon Valley almost a decade ago.
It is my deep rooted conviction that Arts play a profoundly essential role in the human experience. This blog aims to share stories of others who feel the same.
